Easy Read & Plain English Studio
A drafting workspace for clearer writing. Paste or upload a document, choose your format, and we'll help you shape it — flagging what's working and what still needs a human eye. A starting point, not a finished product.
Two formats, two audiences
They're related, but not the same — and they're not translations of each other. Pick the one that matches who you're writing for. Not sure? Plain English is the safest default for general public information.
Plain English
- Short sentences and short paragraphs
- Everyday words, no jargon
- Clear headings and sections
- Reads like normal writing — no images required
For a general audience who read at a reasonable level and want information fast.
Easy Read
- One idea per sentence, 15 words or fewer
- An image beside every point (1/3 image, 2/3 text)
- Only the key, need-to-know messages
- Large text, lots of white space, hard words explained
For people with low literacy or intellectual disability. Must be user-tested before publishing.

A draft is a start — testing makes it true
No tool can confirm that Easy Read works. The only real test is people with lived experience reading it and telling you what's clear and what isn't. Dower runs that testing with our community of readers, so your final document actually does its job.
